3D models of St. Adalbert’s Church and historical reconstructions

St. Adalbert’s Church in Kraków’s Main Market Square is one of the oldest sacred sites in Poland, with a history spanning over a thousand years. Thanks to a collaboration with the Archaeological Museum in Kraków, I had the opportunity to contribute a small part to the story of this unique place.

A year ago, for a new exhibition in the church’s crypts, I prepared three photogrammetric models: a contemporary model of the church and two models of the reconstructed appearance of the temple from the 10th/11th and 12th centuries, recreated based on models made by the museum. The three-dimensional visualizations of these reconstructions can now be seen as holograms, which are part of the new exhibition.

The exhibition, titled “Right next door, the heart of the city beat. The history of St. Adalbert’s Church,” opened on August 29, 2024, and tells the centuries-old history of this place—from the wooden church at the turn of the 10th and 11th centuries, through the Romanesque temple from the 12th century, to the Baroque reconstruction from the 17th century. The exhibition was created thanks to the team from the Archaeological Museum, including: Bogumił Pilarski, Anna Piwowarczyk, Artur Toniarz, and Mirosław Macuda.

For me, it was an incredibly interesting collaboration, and the opportunity to scan and prepare models for presentation in a museum format is both a source of satisfaction and an honor. If you haven’t had the chance yet, be sure to plan a walk to the Market Square and go down to the crypts of St. Adalbert’s Church.
